University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital named People’s Choice in the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Great Plains Chapter's IDEA Awards. The project was recognized by voters for its amazing level of design and exceptional quality of work. The hospital was honored as People’s Choice among 98 projects nominated within the category.
The design concept explores nature throughout the state of Iowa as a healing element. The lower levels implement textures, patterns and colors reflecting Iowa’s farmlands. This gradually changes on higher floors into prairies, woodlands, and rivers, culminating in skies on the top level. Each floor has its own color and icon to assist in wayfinding and provide a sense of discovery. Materials were carefully selected to create a safe environment for patients, family and staff.
The IIDA Great Plains Chapter annual Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) Competition recognizes Interior Design work represented by the Des Moines, Omaha and Eastern Iowa City Centers. Projects are honored for their exceptional quality of work within the A&D industry and profession.
