CBRE | Heery was named a winner of the 2018 International Interior Design Association’s Healthcare Design Awards this week for its design of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics’ Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
This annual design competition honors and celebrates outstanding originality and excellence in the design and furnishings of healthcare interior spaces. CBRE | Heery’s design won in the Pediatric Hospitals category.
The new 507,000 square foot Stead Family Children’s Hospital is designed as a healing environment that facilitates the improvement of the health and well-being of children and their families, and provides space for medical education and clinical research.
“Our design team aimed to create an interior environment that provides comfort through form and materials, as well as one that facilitates the highest levels of care provided by healthcare professionals vested in the design process,” said Scott Hansche, Managing Director at CBRE | Heery.
“As the commercial design industry as a whole continues to place people and their needs at the center of the spaces they create, healthcare designers are paving the way forward,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA. “The winning projects expertly leverage design as a solution and a driver of positive patient outcomes, and serve as an example to which all of those in the profession can aspire.”
Projects were reviewed by a panel of design professionals focused on healthcare spaces. All winning projects will be recognized during a special awards reception on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, in the IDEA Studio at IIDA Headquarters in Chicago. Winning projects are featured on the IIDA website and will be published in an issue of Healthcare Design Magazine.
