CBRE | Heery Northwest Teams talk career paths, industry skills at the 2018 NW Youth Careers Expo

CBRE | Heery participated in the Northwest Youth Career Expo on March 13th at the Oregon Convention Center. The Expo is the Northwest’s premier career-education event where more than 7,000 students from high schools across Oregon and Southwest Washington come face-to-face with the state’s leading employers. The Expo exposes students to the region's amazing diversity of career opportunities and the skills needed to pursue those jobs.

The Expo is organized by the Portland Workforce Alliance (PWA), an independent nonprofit that sees young people as the key to the region’s long-term economic prosperity and quality of life. PWA works with local employers to educate students about career opportunities as part of a strategy to boost Oregon’s graduation rate and build a resilient, prosperous and well-educated workforce.

CBRE | Heery Northwest program management, construction management and commissioning teams engaged with students on a variety of topics related to the built industry. Johnny Metoyer, CBRE | Heery Project Manager challenged students with the “Jenga Construction Challenge” and spoke about his experience as the project manager for Portland Public Schools' recently completed $113 million Franklin High School modernization project.

Susan Wold, Operations Project Manager also attended the Expo where she utilized her background in human resources by helping students prepare for upcoming job interviews.  Janelle Kolisch, Senior Commissioning Agent, discussed her role as Programming Co-Chair of the Professional Engineers of Oregon (POE). Janelle promoted the engineering industry by speaking with students about her education path and mechanical discipline and the steps she took to become a commissioning professional.
