The Philadelphia office volunteered at St. Peter’s Food Cupboard on April 14. We unpacked and sorted through donated food for pickup at no cost from 180 families in need. This is the only foodbank in Southeastern Center City. Some of the food comes from Philabundance, a distributor of food to charities that Heery from the Heart assisted twice before.
For 25 years St. Peter’s Food Cupboard has provided food to people in need - those choosing between food and heat, food and medicine, food and clothes. In 2010 they began participating in Philabundance’s Fresh for All program, enabling them to distribute 1000 pounds of fresh produce per week in addition to canned and packaged foods, and they added a Cantonese translator enabling them to talk with our many Chinese guests. The Food Cupboard is run entirely by volunteers from the church, the community and St. Peter’s School and is supported by grants, donations and the church.
