Opened in 1992, the Augusta Convention Center has been a successful public and private partnership that has contributed to the revitalization of historic downtown Augusta along the banks of the beautiful Savannah River. In 2005, the citizens of Augusta approved the SPLOST Tax, which set aside funds to enhance and expand the convention center.
Turner & Townsend Heery was selected to provide program management services for the $30 million Trade Exhibit & Event Center (TEE Center), located in Augusta's historic district. The project includes 95,000 SF in new construction and 21,000 SF in renovations to the existing Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.
The Center includes a 40,000 SF column-free exhibit hall, new kitchen/banqueting facilities, and pre-function and back-of-house spaces. The exhibit hall incorporates and adaptively reuses a historic warehouse that physically connects to it, and to the existing Conference Center, two hotels and a parking structure.
The TEE Center took first place in the 2013 Build Georgia Awards Program, which is designed to recognize contractor members and their construction teams for outstanding performance on some of Georgia's most noteworthy projects. This project took top honors in the group for new construction projects completed by contractors with annual volumes between $50 and $100 million dollars using the construction management at risk delivery method.
