FREDDIE MAC

For more than 25 years, Turner & Townsend Heery has assisted Freddie Mac with new construction, renovation and retrofitting projects. The relationship achieved its full promise with the successful design and construction of Freddie Mac’s corporate campus.

Originally retained to provide strategic facility planning, site analysis and assistance in evaluating options available for planning and implementing this significant office complex, Turner & Townsend Heery was subsequently selected as the program manager for the five-phase master plan aimed at consolidating all headquarter functions in one location. The project totaled 2.8 million GSF of developed space that included 1.3 million SF of offices in four buildings to house 3,900 employees, and 1.5 million SF of underground parking.

The Freddie Mac Headquarters Campus is sited in a prominent, urban location in McLean, VA, adjacent to and highly visible from the Dulles Access Road near the Capital Beltway. Three of the four buildings overlook this major artery just outside Washington, DC. The front door of the campus is on Jones Branch Drive, and the cable-stayed pedestrian bridge over this main thoroughfare linking three of the buildings has become a signature landmark.

The Freddie Mac buildings have numerous technology features, such as two full floors of highly sophisticated trading areas, conference centers with the latest in audio/visual equipment, state-of-the-art computer rooms, and a high-tech infrastructure supporting an 800-person IT department. Security and life safety are both extremely critical to Freddie Mac, and all facilities are designed with state-of-the-art security and fire safety systems.
