The Raleigh Convention Center is an active hub for the culture, commerce and technologies that make the area one of the most admired and sought after regions in the United States. The modern facility includes a soaring street-level lobby, an elegant ballroom and a massive exhibit hall as well as cutting edge tech amenities and award-winning culinary delights.
The City of Raleigh commissioned Turner & Townsend Heery to provide phased project management services for the new downtown Raleigh Convention Center. The center totals approximately 509,000 SF with a budget of $221 million. The Turner & Townsend Heery team served in a staff augmentation capacity to the City of Raleigh’s Construction Management Department, working in a seamless arrangement with the City. The new space includes the 150,000 SF of exhibit hall space, 30,000 SF of meeting rooms and a 36,000 SF grand ballroom.
In 2012, Turner & Townsend Heery was contracted by the City of Raleigh to provide comprehensive field assessments of the Raleigh Convention Center. The landmark facility was assessed for building envelope, structural, site/civil, mechanical/electrical/plumbing and fire protection systems, elevations/escalators, life safety, and information technology. The goal of the study was to produce a 25-year Capital Expenditure Report. Additionally, the team provided a comparative Design Feature Analysis analyzing other market and design driven features seen in similar facilities across the country.
